Announcing the theatre titles for Interlochen Arts Camp 2024
Camp students will perform a diverse selection of classic and contemporary theatre works, including Shakespeare’s ‘The Tempest’ and ‘Roald Dahl's Matilda the Musical.’
High School Musical Theatre Production students perform Stephen Flaherty, Lynn Ahrens, and Terrence McNally’s Tony Award-winning musical Ragtime during the 2023 Interlochen Arts Camp session.
Tony Award-winning musical Wonderful Town will headline the summer 2024 theatre season at Interlochen Arts Camp, which will run from June 23 to Aug. 4.
The 1953 musical—which features lyrics by Betty Comden and Adolph Green, a book by Joseph A. Fields and Jerome Chodorov, and music by Leonard Bernstein—follows two sisters as they pursue their dreams in 1930s-era Greenwich Village. Students in the High School Musical Theatre Production program will perform the work under the direction of returning faculty members and 2003 Broadway revival cast members Joyce Chittick and Rick Faugno.

- Intermediate Musical Theatre Production: Roald Dahl's Matilda the Musical | Music and lyrics by Tim Manchin | Book by Dennis Kelly | Directed by Peggy Trecker White
- Intermediate Acting Company Production: The Tempest by William Shakespeare | Directed by Scott A. Harman
- Junior Musical Theatre Production: Imagine a Dragon | Book and lyrics by Kathryn Funkhouser | Music by Denver Casado | Directed by Ben Lohrberg (IAC 09, IAA 10-14)
The play to be performed by students in the Junior Theatre Production program will be announced at a later date. Recent productions include The Boy at the Edge of Everything, Peter/Wendy, Giants in the Sky, Boats, and more.
The Interlochen Arts Camp Theatre Division provides rigorous and engaging theatre training for emerging actors in grades 3-12. Under the guidance of renowned theatre artists and educators, students explore daily classes in a variety of topics and rehearse for end-of-session productions and showcases. Notable alumni include Tony Award-winning actor Victoria Clark; Emily in Paris star Ashley Park; RENT original Broadway cast member Anthony Rapp; Tony Award-nominated playwright and MacArthur “Genius Grant” recipient Sarah Ruhl; and The New York Times chief theatre critic Jesse Green, among many others.
Applications are now open for all 2024 Arts Camp programs. Camp theatre programs fill up quickly; prospective students are encouraged to apply by the Jan. 15, 2024 priority application deadline for placement in their top-choice program.
