Preview: 2017 Arts Academy Alumni Weekend

All weekend:

Past, Present and Future of the Interlochen Campus
Interlochen’s Coordinator of Campus Tours, Margaret Beery, will take you behind-the-scenes to explore the history behind significant places on campus, share the impact of new facilities like the Dennison Center, and provide a glimpse into Interlochen’s future as she highlights the site of the new music complex and the expansion of the dance building. There are five tour times throughout the weekend. All tours begin and end at Apollo Hall, just off of Osterlin Mall. Wear comfortable walking shoes.

Future of Cinema Film Festival
Interlochen Arts Academy’s 12th annual Future of Cinema Film Festival brings together professional filmmakers from around the world for a weekend of screenings, panels and master classes. This year’s guests include alumni Matthew McGaughy, composer, (IAC 90-93, IAA 93-95); Dylanger Mychael Bates, filmmaker (IAC 07, IAA 07-09); Chad Engel, special effects artist (IAA 07-09) and Sara Nimeh, filmmaker (IAA 06-08, IAC 00-06). Friday evening:

Interlochen Arts Academy Orchestra Concert
Enjoy a performance from the Interlochen Arts Academy student orchestra, featuring movements from Debussy’s La Mer, Prokofiev’s Romeo and Juliet, and Stravinsky’s The Firebird. Registration for Alumni Weekend includes one ticket per person registered.

Saturday morning:

Opening Gathering and Welcome from President Trey Devey
Gather with nearly six decades of alumni as Interlochen's eighth president, Trey Devey, welcomes all reunion attendees to Interlochen's Alumni Weekend. For those unable to attend please join us on the Interlochen Alumni Facebook Page for a live broadcast. The broadcast will begin at 10 a.m. EDT.

Saturday afternoon:

Back-to-school classes
Join longtime Interlochen Arts Academy faculty members Taoufik Nadji and Brian McCall for short studies in history and physics.

Reading and Book Signing with Jack Driscoll, Michael Delp and Anne-Marie Oomen
Join accomplished writers, beloved teachers and former Directors of the Academy Creative Writing Division, Jack Driscoll (IAA Fac 75-08), Michael Delp (IAA Fac 84-14), and Anne-Marie Oomen (IAA Fac 97-14) for readings of their most recent works. A book signing will follow.

Saturday evening:

Interlochen Arts Academy Chamber Singers
With 2017 marking the 450th anniversary of Claudio Monteverdi’s birth, the Interlochen Arts Academy Chamber Singers present “Looking Forward and Looking Back,” a program including selections of Monteverdi’s music as well as contemporary composers influenced by him. Seating is limited; tickets will be available on a first-come, first-served basis. Registration for Alumni Weekend includes one ticket per person registered.

An Interlochen tradition! Join your classmates in Fine Arts for an evening of informal performances.

Sunday morning:

Alumni Panel: Reflections on the Kresge Phrase
Three alumni with unique perspectives and career journeys share how the phrase on the back of Kresge Auditorium --“Dedicated to the promotion of world friendship through the universal language of the arts”-- rings true in their lives. A panel discussion will follow the series of rapid-fire presentations from Dr. Holly Gilbert, Director of NASA’s Heliophysics Science Division; Andrew Johnston, Deputy Chief of Party for Literacy Achievement and Retention Activity; and Our Lady J, writer and producer for Transparent.
