Briefs: January/February 2018

Current Interlochen Board of Trustees member Steve Hayden (IAC/NMC 62, IAA 62-64) will be inducted into the Advertising Hall of Fame on April 24, 2018. Please join us in congratulating Steve on his achievement.

Doug Stanton (IAA 75-76, 77-79, IAA Fac 90-94) recently had his bestselling novel “Horse Soldiers” adapted into the Jerry Bruckheimer film 12 Strong. The film, which stars Chris Hemsworth, premiered on Jan. 19.

Vanessa Taylor (IAC/NMC 85-86) and Sufjan Stevens (IAA 89-90) are among the nominees for this year’s Academy Awards. Taylor is nominated for Best Original Screenplay for her work on Guillermo del Toro’s The Shape of Water. Stevens is nominated for Best Original Song for “Mystery of Love,” which was written for the film Call me By Your Name.

James Sofranko (IAC/NMC 90-91) has been named the new Artistic Director of the Grand Rapids Ballet. Sofranko, who is currently a soloist with the San Francisco Ballet, will assume the role following the conclusion of the San Francisco season.

Jada Yuan (IAC/NMC 95) was named the 52 Places Correspondent for The New York Times. Yuan was chosen from a field of 13,000 applicants to travel to 52 of 2018’s “unmissable” travel destinations.

Jesse Johnston (IAC 97-98, IAA 97-98) began a new position as a Digital Specialist / Archivist at the Library of Congress. Previously, he was a Sr. Program Officer at the National Endowment for the Arts. He teaches courses at University of Maryland in digital preservation and curation.

Kate Anderson (IAC 03, IAC staff 06) co-wrote several songs for Disney's holiday featurette, Olaf's Frozen Adventure and premiered her show Between the Lines in Kansas City this past summer.

Olivia Millerschin’s (IAC 10-11) cover of John Lennon’s “Imagine” will be featured in the 2018 Olympic Winter Games in Pyeongchang, South Korea. Ice dancing duo Madison Chock and Evan Bates will skate to the song during their free dance routine on Feb. 19.
