Briefs: May/June 2018

Linda Hunt (IAA 62-64) voices the character of Lady Proxima in Solo: A Star Wars Story.

Rudolf Arnheim Distinguished Professor of Dance Peter Sparling (AS 64-66, IAA 66-69, IAC St 70, IAC Fac 72) recently celebrated his retirement from University of Michigan's Department of Dance after 34 years of creative work, teaching and service. Fellow Interlochen Arts Academy, Juilliard and Martha Graham Dance Company alumna and dance partner Janet Eilber (IAC/NMC 62-64, 66-68, IAA 64-69, IAC Fac 70, 72) flew in from New York to surprise Peter and speak at the May 19 event, along with recently retired president of the University Musical Society Ken Fischer (IAC/NMC 55, 57-58, 60-62).

Ana Gasteyer (IAC 79, 81) will star as Miss Hannigan in the Hollywood Bowl’s upcoming production of Annie. Fellow alumnus Michael Arden (IAC 99, IAA 99-01) will direct the production.

Stacie Passon (IAA 85-87) directed an episode of the Showtime series Billions. The episode aired on May 20, 2018, and can be viewed on Showtime’s website.

Vanessa Taylor (IAC 85-86) will write the screenplay for the upcoming film Bad Blood. The film, which will star Jennifer Lawrence, tells the boom-to-bust story of Theranos, Inc.

Glenn Seven Allen (IAC 90) starred as Jack Twist in the United States premiere of the operatic adaptation of Brokeback Mountain. The orchestra was conducted by Kazem Abdullah (IAC 91-97, IAA 96-97).

Roderick Hill (IAC 94-95, IAA 94-96) appeared in an episode of AMC’s The Terror.

Jonnah Speidel (IAA 94-96) is a producer of the new FX dance drama series Pose. The series debuted on June 3.

Cristian Macelaru (IAA 97-99, IAC 98) has been appointed the new Chief Conductor of the WDR Sinfonieorchester in Cologne, Germany.

Kersti Bryan (IAC 00, IAA 01-02) has joined the national tour of Martin Luther On Trial in the role of Katie.

Rebekah Frumkin (IAC 03-05) released her debut novel, “The Comedown,” with Henry Holt and Co. in April 2018. Frumkin will also return to Interlochen Arts Camp this summer as an Instructor of Creative Writing.

Charlie Carver (IAA 04-07) is cast as Cowboy in the 50th anniversary Broadway revival of Boys in the Band.

Ryan Bancroft (IAC 06-07) won first prize at the 2018 Malko Competition for Young Conductors in Copenhagen, Denmark.

Jessica Newham (IAC 07, IAA 07-10), who performs as Betty Who, remixed the theme song of the popular Netflix series Queer Eye in advance of its second season.

Ben Levi Ross (IAC 12-13) will star as Evan Hansen in the national tour of Dear Evan Hansen.

Before heading to The Juilliard School recent Interlochen graduate Joshua McClendon (IAA 15-18, IAC 10-15) joined fellow alumnus Rick Robinson (IAA 78-81, AS 77-78) and others on stage in Detroit for a Draylen Mason Tribute Concert. McClendon is also set to perform on June 23 at the Detroit Symphony Orchestra’s eighth annual Heroes Gala and Benefit Concert.
